Whether you’re getting bored of your current car or if you’re just ready to upgrade to a new car, getting rid of your used car can be extremely inconvenient. But before you take your old car to the dealer to trade it in, consider this: people who sell their car themselves typically get $1,000 to $2,000 more compared to trading it in according to Autotrader.com.
Selling your own car, however, doesn’t have to be a tedious process, and with a little effort on your part, you could walk away with a lot more cash and a nicer car.
Here are 5 tips to help you sell you car, hassle free.
1. Research
Before you list your car, research prices for similar cars in your area. Look in the newspaper and online for used car listings and also take a look at prices at dealerships. If you price too high or too low, people may skip your ad or avoid it because it doesn’t conform to the normal price range.
2. Move beyond the paper
While many people still search their newspaper for used car listings, you should also consider other forms of advertising including the internet. Sites like AutoTrader.com have easy to use car listing services that can walk you through each step of selling your own car.
3. Provide Relevant Information
Because space is limited, especially in print publications, you should provide as much relevant information as possible. Highlight special features, any upgrades and always include the mileage and year of your car. But remember, always be honest and don’t try to oversell your car because you’ll just be wasting yours and the potential buyer’s time.
4. Photos
For online ads, pictures are key. After cleaning your car, take and post photos of both the interior and exterior of your car. The more photos, the better.
5. Protect yourself from Fraudulent Buyers
Selling your car to a stranger can be scary, and fraud is a natural concern. The best way to avoid fraud, however, is to use common sense and exercise good judgment. Never agree to sell a car to someone who offers to buy your car without looking at it, or to someone who lives a considerable distance from you. Before you accept payment, verify the buyer’s identity with a driver’s license and preferably another form of identification. I could find only 5 tips. Anyways the five tips that you have mentioned to sell old car is very useful ones
Each one of your five steps are proving to be quite useful, especially since I am currently trying to sell my used car myself. I have listed on Craig’s List and Classifieds.com but have only received a few calls. I suppose I should do some more research.
