Every year, Porsche enthusiasts flock to exotic locations around the world but skip the typical tourist activities for another equally exciting experience at a racetrack made of snow and ice.
Usually hosted in the backdrop of stunning natural scenery with plenty of snow and ice, Camp4, is a winter driving school hosted by the Porsche Travel Club. Each student has the opportunity to hone their driving skills while driving a 911 Carrera or Cayenne. They learn everything from driving on black ice to how to break effectively and approach a slippery ascent.
5 Quick Winter Driving Safety Tips
But since not all of us have the luxury of being able to afford such an extravagant school, here are 5 quick winter driving safety tips to help you stay safe this winter.
- Drive on fresh snow because it can provide more traction and grip than that slushy mess that used to be called snow.
- Make sure your car is pointed and your steering wheel is turned the direction you want to go before hitting the gas.
- Don’t over-adjust. Cars respond more slowly on slippery surfaces so before you hit the gas or slam on your breaks again, give your car a little time to react.
- Check your tires monthly since tire pressure can change by every 1 psi for every 10 degrees F change in temperature
- Slow down, especially if you’re making a sharp turn or turning a corner. You should also brake sooner and longer than usual on dry surfaces.

Some very good advise. Using the gears too can slow you down. Dropping down to a lower gear and then slowly release the clutch will help to slow the car and help prevent skidding or slidding
