Holiday Parties and Driving Safety

Unfortunately, our food often doesn’t make it through even the shortest car trip, as sharp turns or minor road bumps takes its toll and our once perfectly frosted cake ends up looking like we haphazardly put it together.

Does this situation sound familiar?

With millions of American going to holiday parties every year, the last thing you want to think about is how to properly store your food so it gets from your home to your destination, damage-free. Luckily, new innovations in plastic food containers have made packing food-to-go easier and with a few easy steps you can keep your food safe.

Here are four ways to keep your food intact:

1. Pack food with multiple components separately
If you plan on bringing any food with multiple parts like a caprese salad, it’s best to pack each component separately and assemble them once you reach your host’s home.  This way you can perfect the presentation and any sauces you plan on using won’t drip everywhere.

2. Use specialty food containers
If you plan on bringing cupcakes or something that is at risk for being smashed, you should consider buying special plastic food containers made especially for particular items that will better protect your food. Although these containers may be a little more expensive, they are well worth the money if you plan on using them on multiple occasions.

3. Avoid foods with excess sauces or liquids
While a hearty soup may seem like the perfect addition to a dinner party, trying to pack soup or any other food with excess liquids or sauces can be dangerous. Those potholes and road bumps are not forgiving and you may end up with a puddle in the backseat of your car.

4. Consider easier foods
While bringing mini-stuffed mushrooms to a party sounds like a great idea, trying to transport these individual mushroom caps can be a nightmare. Instead, consider bringing something easier like a platter of holiday cookies or a healthy salad.
