Since 1988, the number of deaths caused by a vehicle has been steadily decreasing, and in 2008 the number of traffic fatalities reached its lowest level since 1961 and has fallen 9.7 percent since 2007. While this is good news, there were still 37,261 lives lost due to traffic crashes [Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/811172.pdf)].
As advances in air bag and car technology have made driving significantly safer, the most important thing we can do to prevent accidents is to practice safe driving habits. On Tuesday’s show, Vehicle Vibes host, Marcia Hansen, will speak to Lake County, IL Coroner, Dr. Richard Keller about safe driving.
As you know, teen drivers, because of their inexperience on the road, tend to have the highest risk for accidents. Dr. Keller will be talking about how to teach teens how to develop good driving habits and talk to them about being safe on the road.
Dr. Keller will also talk about child car seat safety and how to properly and safely restrain children to help reduce their risk of being injured or killed in a car crash. He will discuss how to find the right car seat and how to know when it is ok to switch from a car to a booster seat.
You can catch Marcia’s interview with Dr. Keller on Vehicle Vibes Radio.
