Residents of San Francisco are 60% more likely to buy a green car than the average American, according to a new study conducted by Nielsen. Washington D.C. and New York City also topped the list as being more green-auto friendly than the rest of the nation.
The study looked at national ownership rates of high mileage vehicles including the Honda Fit, Toyota Prius and Mini Cooper.
Interestingly, the top 10 most green-car friendly cities were primarily coastal metropolitan areas. The cities with the lowest adoption rate of green cars were primarily in the south and Midwest, with West Virginia and Mississippi holding seven of the 10 cities where gas guzzlers still rule.
